Today is Good Bear Day

This day honors Theodore Roosevelt (born on this day in 1858), 26th president of the United States. Teddy bears were named after him. Quick bit of trivia: Teddy Bear collecting is called arctophily. The word arctophily is a combination of two Greek words that mean "bear" and "love."

"It is not work that kills men, it is worry. Work is healthy; you can hardly put more on a man than he can bear. But worry is rust upon the blade. It is not movement that destroys the machinery, but friction."

-- Henry Ward Beecher

Chew some gum to celebrate the birthday of William Wrigley Jr., the man who brought us
"pure chewing satisfaction." Trivia buffs: To grow all the mint Wrigley needs for its mint-flavored gums requires 53 square miles of farmland -- about 30,550 football fields!

Today is the anniversary of Black Sunday

In 1966, movie theater owners named this date Black Sunday as few people came to theaters. Instead, most people stayed home to see "The Bridge on the River Kwai" movie on ABC-TV.
